Facilities and Truck Use

Principle Investigator: Kenneth Kurani

Project Funder: The California Air Resources Board

This study is based on a survey of California facility managers requesting information on facilities with significant daily truck traffic. The survey collected data needed to understand the viability of different regulatory strategies that could be implemented to accelerate the use of zero-emission trucks. Survey questions were prepared to understand a wide range of facility characteristics such as the type of facility, ownership and size, the nature of items shopped to and from the facility, information about vehicle trips to and from the facility, facility record keeping, and potential barriers to the installation of charging infrastructure. Several methods were used to reach out to facility managers requesting that they participate in an online survey. The methods included publicizing the survey utilizing listserv emails, directly emailing large lists of facilities from state agencies, and cold calling facilities using phone contacts from some of these lists. Survey responses are, in general, displayed as a function of facility type. The results were summarized focusing on the relevance to zero-emission infrastructure.
